Day 23 of 300 - Fasting and a workout

Today, I stepped onto the treadmill having not eaten a single calorie since Sunday evening.

I am currently 60 hours into a water fast.

Physiologically, this is a different world. My liver glycogen is depleted, and my blood sugar reserves are gone. The goal of today’s run was simply to see if I could start when my fuel tank read empty.

I planned to keep it light. I capped the session at 30 minutes to avoid spiking cortisol levels that could break down muscle tissue instead of fat.

The Data:

I felt like I was taking it easy, yet I ran at an 8:52 /km pace. To put that in perspective, three weeks ago - when I was fully fed and fueled my standard interval pace was 9:01 /km.

I am currently running faster on water and electrolytes than I used to run on carbs.

My body has shifted into deep ketosis, burning stored fat for fuel instead of relying on glucose. My heart rate remained stable at 134 bpm, proving that the cardiac system wasn’t distressed even without eating.

The fast continues until tomorrow. On on.
